Recognition has grown that content, by itself, is not necessarily going to make a difference. Formal learning, without having helped the learner be in a context where the content makes sense, cognitively and emotionally, doesn’t work. Even a well-designed job aid won’t make sense in the wrong context or if the performer doesn’t use it. Hence the recent rallying cry: “If content is king, then context is emperor.”
